Family Fitness Fun - Keep Fit & Healthy & Have Fun With Your Family!

Not only does your physical appearance improve when you shed those unwanted pounds, you also feel more energetic and more enthusiastic about life. So grab your family and hit the desk with these fitness ideas. Get everyone in your family involved in monthly fitness activity planning. If you dont take time to make time, it is unlikely that it will happen, or at least it will be less likely. Find out when each family member is free and schedule a biking trip to a local park for a picnic, for example. Or get on the zoos mailing list and attend one of their functions outdoors. Get on mailing lists for your local YMCA, Recreation Center and other activity centers, too, and participate in their activities. Fitness includes healthy eating, so involve each family member in this, too. Get cookbooks from the library and make copies of recipes to experiment with, asking everyone to share in the planning. Try not only regional and popular dishes but also foreign recipes to add some spice in your life. Then take turns cooking and cleaning up. Learn low-fat meal preparation methods from books and helpful magazine and online articles. Adapt them to suit the needs of your family. Try fun fitness activities together like square dancing, joga, climbing, karate. See whats available at your gym or Jazzercise center and sign up for a trial. Beverage choices are important. So look into investing in a water filter for your kitchen to avoid spending so much on bottled water. Save sugary soda for Friday fun night. Take care of your health and teach your other family members to do the same: brushing teeth, gums and tongue after each meal and snack; washing hands regularly to get rid of unwanted germs; using sunscreen for outdoor activities; using good lighting for better eye care; and more. Ask your family doctor about vitamins and mineral supplements for everyone. Call local hotels to see about using their pool for family fun. Many places offer day, monthly or other rates for nearby residents. Plan fitness activities with your neighbors. There are plenty of National Parks for camping where you can even rent Tee Pees and small cabins. Plan an outing together and hike, fish, enjoy the beach, swim, ski, go kayaking or canoeing; in short enjoy the great outdoors. Making Marriage Work, Part 1

By Margaret Paul, Ph.D. (This is part 1 of a 5-part series on making marriage work) It was Joan’s first counseling session with me, but it didn’t take long before the tears began to stream down her cheeks. I’m married to the man of my dreams, but I’m miserable, she said, reaching a hand up to wipe away her tears. We were so in love and now things are falling apart. We are fighting and distant much of the time. I love Justin and I don’t want to lose him, but I don’t know what to do. I don’t know why this is happening. I seem to be getting angrier and angrier and he is getting more and more distant. What are you angry about? I inquired. Justin keeps pulling away from me. He’s working longer and longer hours. But even on the weekends when he is home, he just seems to be distant. He’s either watching TV, playing computer games, or in the garage working in his workshop. When I try to talk with him about it, he shuts down even more. We can’t talk at all anymore. Like Joan and Justin, many couples are stuck in a dysfunctional relationship system, wondering what happened to the love and passion they had at the beginning of their relationship. Two major fears may be undermining your relationship with your partner: Fear of rejection: the loss of another’s love through anger, judgment, emotional withdrawal, physical withdrawal, or death. Fear of engulfment: the loss of self through being controlled, consumed, invaded, suffocated, dominated, and swallowed up by another’s demands. Until these fears are healed, you will likely react defensively whenever they are triggered. Joan reacted by getting angry when her fears of rejection were activated, while Justin withdrew when his fears of engulfment were triggered. You might react in different defensive ways, but the result will be the same - your reactive behavior coming from your fears of rejection or engulfment will trigger your partner’s fears of rejection or engulfment. Now both of you are acting out of fear. Together you have created an unsafe space where love and intimacy will gradually erode. Most of us have not learned to stay open when our fears of being rejected, abandoned, engulfed, or controlled are triggered. If, when these fears are activated, you focus on who is at fault or who started it, you perpetuate the problems. Blaming your partner for your fears, as well as for your own reactive, unloving behavior, makes the relationship feel unsafe. You both end up feeling badly, each believing that your pain is the result of your partner’s behavior. You feel victimized, helpless, stuck, and disconnected from your partner. You desperately want your partner to see what he or she is doing that (you think) is causing your pain. You think that if your partner only understands this, he or she will change - and you exhaust yourself trying to figure out how to MAKE your partner understand. Over time, passion dries up. Superficiality, boredom, fighting, and apathy take its place. The dual fears of LOSING THE OTHER through rejection and LOSING YOURSELF through being swallowed up by the other are the underlying cause of unloving, reactive behavior. These fears are deeply rooted. They cannot be healed or overcome by GETTING someone else’s love. On the contrary, you must heal these fears before you can SHARE love - give and receive love - with your partner. The key to doing this is learning how to create a safe inner space where you can work with and overcome your fears of rejection and engulfment. In this series, I will show you a powerful six-step process you can use to create and maintain the inner safety you need to become strong enough to love. Only when you have achieved inner safety and inner strength can you create a safe relationship space. Joan gradually learned to stop attacking Justin and take loving care of herself whenever her fears of rejection surfaced. She learned to create inner safety when she felt threatened rather than trying to get Justin to make her feel safe from her fears. You can do this too. In fact, any two people who are willing to learn to create their own inner sense of safety can also learn to create a safe relationship space where their intimacy and passion will flourish and their love will endure. An Organised Weight Loss Program That Works Wonders

By Paul Newland Step 1 Read as much as you can about healthy eating. You will need to educate yourself on healthy food choices and the importance of consuming fresh food. Step 2 Write down everything you eat in a week no cheating this is for your eyes only. Once this is done, start crossing out the bad foods (fried food, margarine, cakes, biscuits, ice cream, sugar, fast foods, coffee) and leave the good foods (meat, fish, chicken, eggs, fruit, vegetables, grain, and complex carbohydrates). Step 3 Now empty your cupboards and fridge of all of these bad foods soft drinks, margarine, refined flour and sugary foods like biscuits and cakes and replace with healthy alternatives fruit and vegetables, plenty of meat, eggs, soy milk, canned fish, dried fruit, nuts (not coked), high fiber foods such as oats. Whey protein powders are also a great idea and can be mixed with fruit, ice and either water or milk. The emphasis is on HEALTHY, not low fat. Concentrate on foods with natural ingredients. Throw out and dont buy anything with the words hydrogenated oil/fat on the label. Try not to include too much wheat and dairy these are the foods most likely to cause allergies. Step 4 - Invest in a good quality water filter (ideally one that filters out fluoride) so you always have plenty of fresh, clean water available. Every time you go to open the fridge have a glass of water. Because most of our water comes from food, our trips to the fridge are often a search for water rather than food so make an effort to drink lots of water. Step 5 Take a sheet of paper and divide it into five in the first fifth write breakfast, in the next write morning meal, then lunch, followed by afternoon meal and finally dinner. Now you have a weight loss program outline. Step 6 Start your weight loss program by writing out an eating plan for each of the five sections using the rules of eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. You can write in anything into each of the sections as long as you write in good, high protein, low carbohydrate foods. Useful tips for the main meals of breakfast and lunch: two eggs a day wont change your cholesterol level, chicken with the skin is OK; eat your meat medium rare (turkey breast is an excellent low fat high protein meat); eat fish as much as possible - about 3 times per week; as many vegetables and salads as you like (avoid potatoes and starchy vegetables, and avoid salad dressings) preferably steamed; only three to four serves of fruit per day because of the sugar) Useful tips for the in-between meals: soups, salads, eggs, smoked salmon and fish, cottage cheese, olives, pickled vegetables, fruit, protein shakes (especially those with extra fibre, a good source of protein such as whey, vitamins and minerals), meat, fish and chicken, butter is fine. If you cant avoid a slice of bread, make sure you have brown bread, full of grain and fibre and keep the quantity down to one slice per day. Remember to take your supplements as part of your weight loss program - preferably all 90 essential nutrients and have an extra dose of liquid minerals ready if you get hunger pangs. For maximum effectiveness take your supplements with each meal and spread the dose over the whole day. The addition of a supplement containing Chromium helps control blood sugar and reduces hunger, sweet cravings, and the carbohydrate highs and lows. Special treats: Life is too short to go without all the naughty things and everyone has their weaknessso allow yourself to have some ‘favourite food’ every now and then and look for more suitable alternatives . . . for example: 1. Sorbet or frozen fruit instead of ice cream 2. Wine instead of spirits (merlot and pinot noir are highest in antioxidants!) - maximum one glass per day; 3. Herbal teas, green tea or white tea instead of coffee limit yourself to one cup of coffee a day or every other day if you really cant do without it! 4. A delicious piece of fruit on its own or in a low fat protein shake instead of a bar of chocolate. You can also search around for health bars high in protein, low in sugar and with a selection of vitamins and minerals. Be creative! After a while you won’t be craving the ‘bad’ things anyway. Step 7 EARN YOUR FOOD! Remember this statement and you WILL lose weight. If you plan some type of activity BEFORE your meal you will reap the benefits and become more in tune with your body even walking to the supermarket or up some stairs counts. The more you burn in activity, the more you can eat. Put exercise sessions before meals into your weight loss program as much as you can to fit in with your lifestyle. Step 8 Set some time aside each day 5 to 10 minutes is fine sit quietly, empty your mind and then when all is calm, visualize your ideal weight and shape and feel gratitude that you have already achieved your goal by using your weight loss program. Write out a positive statement about your ideal weight and shape and say it when you first wakeup in the morning and before retiring in the evening. This is a little trick for the subconscious and it will help your weight loss program as well as helping you have a great positive outlook! Step 9 - Make this program part of your long-term lifestyle your body will adapt and will find its own perfect weight and shape. While some perfumes and scented oils were held in simple jars, the evolution of the perfume bottle has since escalated into an art form worthy of collecting. Antique perfume bottles were mentioned in records during Biblical time periods to the 6th century creations of the Egyptian perfume bottle. The use of glass to create antique perfume bottles was not utilized until 1500 B.C. To possess a glass perfume bottle was quite an honor in those days as they were reserved for the wealthy. When collecting, you may encounter the Art Deco, Victorian, Art Nouveau (iridescent colors), Steuban and Imperial styles and designs. When looking for the perfect perfume bottle to add to a collection, you will find numerous shapes, styles, cuts, colors and sizes to choose from. During the Edwardian era, a perfume bottle may display a hand painted scene on a ceramic canvas with a silver cap. Beautifully detailed scenes were commonplace on bottles from the early 1900s. To highlight the many different shapes that antique perfume bottles offered, you might find a Victorian era example showcasing a heart-shaped body. Some of these were enhanced through hand painted gold detail and may offer an original gold chain flowing from the top of the bottle. Some also doubled as a piece of jewelry. The rage in the the 1970’s, time-stretched indoor plant lovers have begun to bring the terrarium back into home decor. Glass enclosed containers feature miniature plants and accents. Easy to take care of and perfect for the absent-minded homeowner, terrariums are a cinch to create and maintain. Here are some handy hints. -Pick a visual theme and stick with it. Think of the terrarium as a pint-sized landscape. Don’t mix accents from different themes such as mushrooms with driftwood. -Remember to put a layer of small pebbles or stones on the bottom and a layer of small charcoal over. All plants don’t like to stand in water or have “wet feet”. -Water sparingly, especially if covered. Take the top off every so often so fresh air and breathe into the terrarium. -Buy small plants when first establishing your terrarium. Over time these plants might need to be moved out or pruned as they overtake other plants. Editing is the key to successful small container gardening. -Most any glass container will do for your terrarium. By Mike McDougall The Madrid region (one of Spains smallest), as one would expect, is largely dominated by the capital city itself. It has been said, by gourmands and food critics alike, that Madrid does not really have an individual cuisine all of its own, rather it draws on influence from the whole of Spain, absorbing a rich tapestry of flavours and ingredients and throwing them into its own gastronomic melting pot. This is certainly true to some extent; in no other city in Spain are visitors likely to be presented with such a wide cross section of the nations flavours. Despite this fact Madrid does still boast a few dishes that are synonymous with the capital and by absorbing so many influences; Madrid has become one of Spains richest gastronomic regions. Famed for its stews and hotpots, Madrids most famous dish is probably Cocido Madrileo. Made with chick peas and vegetables it is a staunch favourite of locals and tourists. Callos (tripe) is also typical of the region and can be served in many ways and visitors should not leave without having sampled the simple, yet delicious, Sopa de Ajo (garlic soup). The region is also heavily influenced by nearby Castile an area famous for its roasted meats and these traditions have been readily absorbed by Madrilenos. Meats are often slow cooked in a wood oven, giving exquisite flavour and tenderness. Veal, suckling pig and even goat, are often prepared in this way. Food in the region is often more warm and hearty than in the South and is much better suited to the cooler winters of the central and northern regions of Spain. Desserts and sweets are also a big thing in Madrid and are often seasonally produced. The superb torrijas is very similar to bread and butter pudding and a favourite in spring time and especially around the time of holy Week.Rather surprisingly for an area that is 250 miles from the nearest ocean, Mardileos are great lovers of fish and the city boasts the second largest fish market in the world, only the one in Tokyo is larger. Every morning fresh fish arrives by the truck-load from Spains coastal regions filling the cities restaurants and bars with a massive variety of seafood, so much so that Madrid has received the paradoxical nickname of the best port in Spain. As you would expect, Madrid is home to some excellent restaurants with no shortage of fine dining options as well as a massive variety of tapas bars. Some criticism has been levelled at Madrid in recent times about the lack of high quality international cuisine on offer and vegetarians (not exactly two-a-penny in Spain) may also find it hard to find a decent meal. Spaniards are very much a meat eating race so vegetarian dishes in restaurants may not be of the highest quality (although standards have improved within recent years). The ever growing city break market means that citys such as Madrid have to provide good quality food for all of their tourist visitors if it wants to keep them coming back. This can only be a good thing for the city thats ability to adapt and adopt food from around Spain has clearly given Madrid its own unique cuisine. Loyola the Luciferian

The Society of Jesus was founded by Ignatius of Loyola, who could be seen as the Catholic Reformations equivalent to Martin Luther. {Whose name is suggestive of Lucifer too.} Loyola has been referred to as one of the most importantif not the most importantfigures of the Catholic Reformation. Loyola was born Inigo de Oez y Loyola around 1491. He was born at his familys ancestral castle in Guipzcoa. When he was old enough, he entered the military service, where he served until 1521 when he was seriously wounded in battle. During his recovery from his wounds, he read about the lives of the saints of the church, and he was motivated to devote his life to spiritual service. He hung up his sword and spent a year in prayer and meditation at a cave near the Manresa monastery. While there, Loyola fasted, knelt in prayer for seven hours a day, and flagellated himself to the point of endangering his health. {I grew up near a Manresa Lodge that had some weird goings-on and I often wonder when I see them in places like Sedona or other earth-based religious areas. By Vera Raposo As a frugal mother, Sharon had to admit that she never got into scrap booking over the years because one visit to a scrap book supply shop sent her into sticker shock. With three kids and a limited budget, she knew she couldnt afford all of the supplies and tools that she would want to use. So her childrens photos remained in shoeboxes. In 2005 she discovered a digital scrapbooking kit, the practice of creating scrap book layouts on a computer using digital images. Sharon pulled out her shoeboxes and spent weeks at the computer scanning in every memory. The kids started to think Mom was going a bit mad though when she started to scan everything else she could get her hands on. She scanned all kinds of fabric, curtains, blankets and scarves. She scanned greeting cards, calendars, wall paper and macaroni and cheese boxes. If it fit onto her scanner, she added it to her digital scrapbooking kit. Then, with a simple image program, she went to work. Without scissors or glue or double sided tape, she created page after digital page. With every new layout she thought up she felt like she was getting away with something sneaky. Surely she should have to pay someone something for all of the fun that she was having? Digital scrap booking has matured to the point where you dont have to find out own digital crafting elements, you can find some online for free and other image sets you can pay for. As to be expected, digital image sets are far less costly when compared to purchasing paper and fabric and accessories. It really is an attractive alternative to someone scrap booking on a budget. Sharon keeps her digital projects strictly on her computer, using the layouts as a screen saver slide show. Many others choose to share their creations online or even to print out their layouts and bind them together in a book.
